Thieves steal £30,000 worth of iPhone stock in Monday night raid

£30,000 worth of iPhones were stolen from an O2 store in Essex earlier this week.

119 of the Apple devices were pinched after thieves broke into the Basildon branch after it had closed on Monday night.

A source told Mobile that the thieves ‘pretty much cleared the place out’. Mobile understands that the store’s security cloak had not been turned on, and keys to the store’s secure cabinet had been left on view.

An O2 spokeswoman said: 'W e can confirm there was a break in at an O2 store in Basildon. A police investigation is taking place and we cannot comment any further.'

After the raid, O2 emailed and spoke to staff via a conference call to remind them of O2 security procedures.
