3 launches ‘zero pound tariff’ with free Skype

3 launches ‘zero pound tariff’ with free Skype - Mobile news

‘Sim Zero’ will be available from 17 June

3 has launched the UK’s first ‘zero pound’ Sim-only tariff, offering customers free Skype with no extra charges when used with a 3 phone.

The deal will be available from 17 June and will add to a range of offers from the operator that include free Skype.

In April, 3 announced that Skype would be available for free on almost all of its handsets for all pay monthly and prepay customers.

‘Sim Zero’ allows consumers to make free Sype-to-Skype calls, and also gives instant messaging and voicemail access without having to top-up. Charges outside of the tariff are at prepay rates.

3's head of pay monthly, Andy Nuttall, said: ‘Where once the £35 per month contract was common place, prices are now falling. 3 launched the first £9 contract and other networks have followed suit. Some networks have gone as low as £5, but are handcuffing customers to a 3 year commitment.’

He added: ‘For customers who are fearful of commitment, Sim Zero has minimal ties. Customers can try us out and if they don’t love being with us, they can leave with just one month’s notice.’
