O2 in discussions to bundle Apple laptops with fixed and mobile broadband

O2 is believed to be looking to capitalise on its relationship with Apple by bringing the manufacturer’s laptops to its customers.

The idea is to bundle laptops with fixed and mobile broadband. The laptops wouldn’t be free, but would be subsidised under the scheme. O2 and Apple are understood to be discussing a deal. However, a spokeswoman said there were no current plans.

Apple’s ‘Macbooks’ have been a huge hit with Apple fans and have managed to switch people that are used to Windows laptops and PCs.

Apple has historically controlled distribution of its hardware, only making the devices available through certain channels. If a deal were to go ahead, O2 would be the only mobile retailer selling Apple laptops.

A deal would also guarantee a dramatic acceleration in O2’s broadband run-rate.
