Carl Boraman leaves Samsung smartphone post

Carl Boraman, Samsung’s head of smartphones, is the second member of the manufacturer’s new managerial team to depart, after marketing director James King left to join Motorola.

Boraman (pictured), who joined Samsung in March, left the company two weeks ago, five months after he joined, to become director at b2b communications solution company Tollring.

King rejoined Motorola as European marketing director last week, after it emerged that he left Samsung for personal reasons.

Samsung will be hoping to replace the pair quickly to avoid disruption of its recent progress. The manufacturer is currently edging closer towards overtaking Nokia on contract market share.

Boraman said: ‘I’ve joined a company that gave me a great opportunity. The role at Samsung was an interesting one and it was a difficult decision, but this role is right for me. It’s not just the job, it’s the fit. Samsung will always be a consumer brand and my expertise is in b2b.

‘Mark Mitchinson understood my reasons for going. We know each other well having been business acquaintances and friends for 19 years.’

King was unavailable for comment, and will begin his new role at Motorola next week.
