UK division is understood to be unaffected by the job cuts

Handset distributor, Brightpoint is reshuffling its European operations and plans to cut between 275 to 325 jobs - around 10% of its total workforce.

Last February, Brightpoint announced the acquisition of Dangaard Telecom and now as part of integrating the company, up to 75 jobs will be cut at Brightpoint's current European headquarters in Denmark by the end of 2008.

A further 225 to 250 positions from its European division's other operating entities will also be cut by the end of 2008.

But Mobile understands Brightpoint UK, formerly Hugh Symons Telecom until it was bought by Brightpoint two months ago, will be unaffected by the cuts.

The job cuts will be coupled with other significant cost reduction initiatives in Brightpoint's European division.

The company expects the combined initiatives to result in approximately £15 million in annual savings.
