Apple’s iPad will go on
sale in the UK
in late April, slightly later than anticipated, the manufacturer confirmed
today (5 March).
UK consumers will be able to buy both
the Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi and 3G versions of the device, which was originally
set for late March/early April launch.
Apple is understood to be in talks with the operators about ranging the
device, Orange
thought to be a likely frontrunner because of its previous relationship with
the manufacturer.
US customers will be able to buy the
Wi-Fi only model on April 3, with the Wi-Fi and 3G model available later in
April.
Apple CEO,
Steve Jobs, said: ‘The iPad is something completely new. We’re excited for
customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and
connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way
than ever before.’
The iPad has
a 10-inch touch-screen, no keyboard and will allow users to surf the web, watch
TV programmes and read digitised magazines and newspapers.
Apple has
also launched an ebook store – the iBookstore – in a bid to take on Amazon and
Sony by allowing ebook downloads to the device.
