Colleagues pay tribute to the contractor, who was working on behalf of Orange

A man has died while working on behalf on Orange after falling from a mobile base station site in Bromley, Kent.

The health and safety executive and the police are investigating the incident as ‘a matter of routine’, sources said.

Colleagues said the man was a well-liked member of staff who had worked for nearly 20 years based at Orange. He is credited with designing and acquiring most of Orange’s sites in London.

A friend and colleague said: ‘He was one of life’s good guys – polite, eloquent, respected and a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed work-wise as he was Mr Orange. Personally, it will take a long time to get over it.’

Nokia Siemens Networks said: ‘A man died as a result of a fall from a mobile base station site in Bromley, Kent, on Tuesday morning. He was working for a company called Enablement, hired by Nokia Siemens Networks to inspect sites on the Everything Everywhere mobile network.

’Nokia Siemens Networks is shocked and saddened by the death of a contractor working on its behalf. The thoughts of many within the company are with the man's family, friends and colleagues. Nokia Siemens Networks is working with the police and the health and safety executive to understand how the accident occurred. The death is not being treated as suspicious.’

Everything Everywhere said: ‘We are aware of the sad news involving a third party sub-contractor who was carrying out work on behalf of Orange in Bromley yesterday and would like to offer our condolences to the individual's family at this time.

‘This is a third party employee, however we will fully support the HSE and Police who are investigating the incident.’
