A ban on mobile phones at the London Olympics 2012 is on the cards, as part of strict security measures.
The move could undermine plans to make the 2012 Games the ‘mobile phone Olympics’. Operators are already working with the BBC to provide comprehensive mobile phone TV coverage of the events.
The ban is revealed in ticket holders’ terms and conditions. They have been drawn up by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG).
The T&Cs reveal that items under threat of being banned include, ‘food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, liquids in containers of greater than 100ml in size, umbrellas, horns, whistles, drums, rattles, musical instruments, or any other devices that in the opinion of Locog may disturb a Session (including mobile telephones), flasks, thermoses and in general any material that Locog may deem dangerous or that may cause damage or disruption to a session.’
However the Games organizers sought to play down the ban this week. A spokesman said: ‘In many cases, decisions have not been made on what will or will not be allowed into venues.
‘When tickets are issued the final terms and conditions will be made clear to ticketholders.’
