Samsung Galaxy S II tops Android sales
The Samsung Galaxy S II sold more units on contract than any other Android device ever during the third week of Sepatember, according to figures seen by Mobile.
The manufacturer also hit the number one slot for selling the most mobiles in the UK for thirty successive weeks, the figures reveal.
Samsung has consistently beaten its Android rivals on volume marketshare for the thirty weeks from 21 February to 16 September. Now the manufacturer is gunning to increase its lead, launching a major £12m ‘Galaxy Family’ marketing campaign this week, in the run up to Christmas.
The campaign follows the news that the Samsung Galaxy S II has reached the 10 million milestone in global channel sales, doubling from five million in just eight weeks.
Samsung UK and Ireland Mobile MD Simon Stanford (pictured) said in a statement: ‘We’ve seen phenomenal sales of the Galaxy S II globally and in the UK specifically we’ve achieved record sales of Galaxy S II in recent weeks – ahead of all other Android devices. We have ambitious plans for the Galaxy family over the coming months evidenced by a £12m marketing campaign which will launch next week.’
Separate figures seen by Mobile for mobile phone sales on contract for week 35 (29 August to 4 September) show that the Apple iPhone 4 16GB was the top selling contract handset, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S II. The rest of the top 10 comprised: BlackBerry Curve 9300, HTC Wildfire S, Samsung Galaxy Ace, BlackBerry Curve 8520, BlackBerry Torch 9800, BlackBerry Bold 9780, BlackBerry Bold 9900 and HTC Sensation.
