Everything Everywhere to enable cross-network 3G roaming

Orange and T-Mobile customers will be able to use 3G signals from both networks over the coming months

Everything Everywhere is bolstering its 3G services to customers by switching on signals that will allow them to roam across both networks in the UK over the next few months.

Starting next week, the company says it will switch on 3G signals for all Orange and T-Mobile customers to take advantage of. Previously, customers were only able to use 3G from their host network. Customers have been able to use both networks for 2G voice and text services since last year.

A regional rollout approach will be taken, with work completed over the next few months. Orange and T-Mobile customers will not be charged more for using the other’s network.

Everything Everywhere says the move is the latest phase in its ‘big switch on’ network evolution plan, enabling faster internet and data access to its 27 million customers across the UK and its ambition to provide the best 2G and 3G network coverage in the UK.

Everything Everywhere CEO Olaf Swantee said: ‘This is a significant achievement and demonstrates the latest milestone in our network vision and customer promise. Customers are always on the move and demanding instant access to information wherever they are.’
