Apple poaches Dixons CEO as new retail chief

John Browett joins Apple as senior VP for retail in April

Apple has poached the CEO of Dixons as its new senior VP of retail.

John Browett will join Apple in April to oversee the company's retail strategy and expansion of its retail stores worldwide. Browett has been CEO of Dixons Retail since 2007. Previously he worked at Tesco, where he held a number of roles including CEO of Tesco.com.

Browett will report to Apple CEO Tim Cook, who said: 'Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met. We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple.'

Browett replaces Ron Johnson, who announced he was leaving Apple to become CEO of retailer JC Penney in June 2011. Johnson was credited with creating and popularising the Apple store format.
