Galaxy S III a no-show for Samsung at MWC

Galaxy S III a no-show for Samsung at MWC

Device will be revealed in a separate event before July, close to the product's launch

Samsung has confirmed it will not unveil the successor to its Galaxy S II at Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this month.

Rumours had been circulating for some time that the manufacturer had changed its plans to reveal the new smartphone at the Barcelona showcase, which runs from 27 February until 1 March.

A Samsung spokesperson said: 'Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S II smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.'

The Galaxy S II has been a record breaker for Samsung, with the Korean electronics company saying in December that it hit 10 million sales of the device faster than it did for any other handset. It was a key driver in the manufacturer hitting 300 million handset sales in 2011.
