Apple gets German sales ban lifted

Latest skirmish in patent wars sees Motorola thwarted in removing iPhones and iPads from sale

Apple has had a temporary sales ban on several of its iPhone and iPad models in Germany lifted by an appeals court.

Motorola Mobility had forced the removal of the devices after being granted a patent infringement court ruling in December. A statement from Apple said: 'All iPad and iPhone models will be back on sale through Apple's online store in Germany shortly. Apple appealed this ruling because Motorola repeatedly refuses to license this patent to Apple on reasonable terms, despite having declared it an industry standard patent seven years ago.'

A spokesman for Motorola was unable to comment on the case. The dispute arose about a disagreement about how much Apple should pay Motorola for a patent relating to a 'method for performing a countdown function during a mobile-originated transfer for a packet radio system'.
