Carphone Warehouse is throwing down the gauntlet to rival mobile phone retailers, claiming to be offering the cheapest iPhone 5 deals in Britain.
The retailer is offering consumers the 16GB iPhone 5, with no upfront cost, for £39 a month on a two year contract with O2. The deal includes 900 minutes of calls, unlimited texts and 100MB of data.
Other iPhone 5 deals include a two year £37 a month contract with Vodafone with an £47 upfront fee which includes unlimited calls and texts and 1GB of data. The retailer is also offering a two year iPhone 5 contract with Orange at £46 a month with no upfront charge which comes with unlimited calls and texts and 3GB of data.
Carphone is also offering up to £250 trade-in for old iPhones.
Graham Stapleton, Carphone Warehouse chief commercial officer, said: ‘The iPhone 5 is one of the hottest handsets around right now and we’re proud to be offering a selection of the hottest deals.
'We are committed to giving the best possible prices and have reduced the cost of these carefully selected tariffs to ensure that we’re offering something for all of our different types of customer
He added said the deals with Orange and Vodafone reflected the projected rise in data usage, which is forecast to be 1GB per user by 2014 and the high use of data by iPhone owners, averaging around 400mb of data per month.
He warned: ‘Active smartphone users should carefully consider whether a tariff with a higher limit is right for them; remembering that a larger limit will accommodate for any increasing appetite for data and avoid any potential additional charges in the future, ultimately saving money.’
