  • Well, sad news again but they do it every end of financial year. So much for company loyalty when they treat employees in such a disgraceful manner as marching people off site with no notice (not more»the first time and won't be the last). Best wishes to all affected by this news. May be this is your chance to make a career change like I did.«less

  • Get over yourselves! Its business. Redundancies and cost cutting are all part of a recession. If a business dosent make these changes now it wont be able to trade in the furture. And dont talk about lmore»oyalty, there is no such thing anymore. The only reason people have stayed with them for so long is they enjoy it, havent been offered a better job or too lazy to find another job, plane and simple!«less

  • I did not know there was a union for us but have now joined Prospect. Its been sad week in VF and glad to still be in work.

  • As an employee @ the warrington center, it has been very bad the way they treated the staff who have been loyal to the company for 7 years plus to be marched into the board room, given themore» marching orders had their ID tags taken and escorted off the premises. Shocking not even a good bye good luck or thanks.

Now all the staff left are sat waiting for our tap on the sholder from the big boss who we have all never seen or met apart from the odd email saying how bad the company is doing. thanks for your loyalty Vodafone«less

  • I was one of those let go yesterday and while I understand why, they did it in the way they did it was just so cold and impersonal. As said before some genuinely good people have been let go.

  • i had to travel 60 miles to birmingham to be told that i was no longer needed as of the 31st of march, i was given one day notice of a meeting with my regional, with no extra info given, wmore»hen questioning reasoning behind this decision no clear answer could be given, pity the people who have worked hard in the retail stores are losing there jobs, and the fat cats who have made the decisions to put the company in this position stay sat nicely with a top salary,«less

  • I was made redundant by Voda about 8 or 9 years ago after near on 15 years service.
The level of so called support from HR was non existant back then as well, they gave me a brochure for a recmore»ruitment agency ! Best of luck to those affected.«less

  • Rubbish. DBM - some website that directs you to some tools that to use fully you have to pay for. A couple of template CV's and a job site, that is the same as all the others on the net. Cumore»t people who actually made a differnce not like the rest just sitting in a meeting planning for 6 months. Guy Lawrence should go.«less

  • I'm in Prospect Union, formally Connect, and I know for a fact that they are helping some of them who have gone. If you all joined Prospect then they could stop them being like this to us.

  • I got the "aftercare" service from DBM when I left Vodafone this consisted of one email telling me how to write a CV, I could have googled the same info in about 30 seconds, it was jusmore»t a box ticking excercise so Vodafone could say they provided support.«less

Vodafone announces 500 UK job cuts - February 2009 - Mobile news

The network says no stores will be closed and the roll-out will continue

Vodafone is to make 500 job cuts in the UK, as part of plans to save £1bn across the business. The losses were announced today (24 February 2009).

The cuts will be made across all levels at Vodafone headquarters and at its call centres across the country, but no stores will be affected and the store roll-out will continue.

In a statement, Vodafone said: ‘As customers look for best value in their mobile services, Vodafone intends to reduce its cost base whilst continuing to invest in new products and services to meet changing customer needs. The majority of savings will be achieved by taking operating costs out of the business; however, there will also be a reduction of approximately 500 jobs across the business.'

Vodafone said new roles were also being created and that ‘the retail estate and online services will be the focus for ongoing investment.’

The redundancies come as part of the £1 billion cutbacks announced by the group’s head, Vittorio Colao, last November, to be achieved by 2011.
