Nokia trims price of N97 for operators

Manufacturer lowers cost of flagship handset

Nokia has cut the price of its upcoming flagship device, the N97, from the high levels it initially discussed with operator buyers when it was first unveiled.

After briefing operators that the high-end device would be in excess of £500 in January, it is now believed to cost some way below that figure.

One operator said: ‘It’s definitely true that the N97 (pictured) is not as expensive as it was initially. But it was eye watering before. It’s still going to be difficult to get a decent price.’

Nokia said it will also feature the BBC iPlayer service that it has on the N96, but with ‘more, new, clever, fun and interesting applications.’

Analysts expect that operators will have to ‘swallow their pride’, and take the N97 due to high consumer demand.
