Opal Mobile MVNO set to launch later this month - Mobile news

MVNO for independent dealers to offer free calls to 0845 numbers

A new MVNO that will offer free calls to 0845 numbers is set to launch later this month in the independent channel.

Opal Mobile, which is being set up by MFonex boss and Independent Mobile Phone Dealer Association (IMPDA) chair Chris Caudle, will offer customers Sim-only or handset contracts.

Caudle said that during a three week test period two dealers signed 1,000 customers to the MVNO.

The exact amount of minutes and texts included in bundles is yet to be finalised, but business plans are expected to start at £9 per month, while consumer tariffs will cost from £11.

The plans will be named after gem stones, with business tariffs called Onyx and Pearl while the consumer tariffs will be called Topaz, Emerald, Diamond and Ruby.

Calls will cost from 11p per minute, while some tariffs will also include calls to 0845, 0800 and 0870 in their bundled minutes.

Supercover insurance has been appointed as the handset insurer for the service.
