Contract customers up by 13% resulting from increased retail focus

Orange UK’s mobile business revenues were slightly down from the first quarter of this year, falling from £1,137 million to £ 1,133 million.

However, on an annual basis revenues increased by 9.7% since second quarter last year, taking exchange rate changes into account.

The operator increased its contract customers by 13% compared to the end of June last year, taking its contract customer base up to 5,852,000, and total number of customers to 15,757,000.

Orange attributes the rise in contract customers to the increased focus on retail. Some 44% of new customers came through direct distribution channels in the first half of this year, compared to 36% in the first half of last year.

The number of prepay customers, meanwhile fell by 129,000 in the three months to the end of June.

Mobile internet customers reached 2.5 million at the end of June, representing 16% of the operator’s total customer base.
