Much of LG’s transformation from also-ran to serious player over the last 12 months can be traced to Ahn. His biggest success is the Cookie, arguably the sensation over the last six months in mobile retail. The device has lead to Carphone Warehouse’s market share doubling, with 350,000 Cookies sold in four months at the retailer across Europe. When Ahn started outlining his vision of the Cookie (the prototype was originally called the ‘Skott’), most LG executives reacted coldly. He has taken the help of colleague Harrison Lee in marketing the Cookie, and his unswerving faith in the handset as a mass-market touch-screen has led to sales of over 100,000 in the UK alone.
