Sony Ericsson is finally starting to recover in the UK, thanks to its Xperia range and its MD Nathan Vautier’s leadership. The company has had two massive launches this year in the shape of the Xperia Arc and Xperia Play, and Vautier has put a huge marketing spend behind both. The investment appears to have paid off. Sony Ericsson’s ‘PlayStation’ phone and Arc media device have faced software issues but both handsets have been well-received by customers. It’s now Vautier’s aim to claw back share for Sony Ericsson, while it looks to maintain its recently implemented high-end image.
Sony Ericsson had a bad year in 2009 and Vautier took over a difficult beat. But he has earned kudos within the industry for facing up to the quality issues plaguing the brand in 2009. His willingness to admit there were problems and for telling the company to sort out the quality issues has earned him respect. He is seen as very professional and as someone who does not over-promise, but when he has said he will deliver, he does.
