Power 50 Profile: Simon Stanford, head of mobile, Samsung
After taking over from the legendary Mark Mitchinson last year, Simon Stanford – or ‘Stanny’ as he is known to friends – knew he had big shoes to fill. And that he has. Undeterred by Samsung’s historic strategy, Stanford has brought a fresh approach to retail distribution and a new drive to be number one in smartphones, tablets and feature phones. Instead of gaining share by volume, Stanford has vowed to be more stringent about what the manufacturer expects from partners and how they market the products. Under former O2 man Stanford’s instruction, Samsung has increased its lead over Nokia to around 21% of the market. This year, his challenge will be to maintain it.
