Power 50 Profile: Roger Godsiff, MP for Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath
2008 Agent Provocateurs
Cashback stormed onto the mobile industry’s agenda last autumn, and with it did Midlands’ MP, Roger Godsiff. Several of Godsiff’s constituents were affected by the collapse of Birmingham retailer Dialamobile. As well as tabling four early day motions in Parliament calling for tighter regulation of incentive deals, Godsiff summoned the networks to a cashback summit in Westminster. He also raised his concerns with Ofcom. Godsiff continues to be an outspoken critic of the mobile industry and a thorn in the side of operators, with appearances on Watchdog and the recent Mobile Phone Rip-off Dispatches programme. Such contributions will have caused several industry leaders to grit their teeth, but they have helped ensure consumer protection has a higher profile than ever before.
