Chang Ma has done more than anyone to show that LG can become a major mobile brand. Ma and European director Simon Hahm were behind the move to untie LG from building operator exclusives to launch out as a consumer and fashion-orientated brand, drawing sales across the board. Ma’s biggest achievement last year was the unlikely pairing with Prada, delivering strong, high-margin sales for LG, and delivered a ‘halo effect’ by associating with a luxury brand. The Viewty was also a deliberate attempt to add technology credentials to fashionable status, and quickly became central to retailers’ counter-iPhone strategy.
