Handset is most popular contract phone after huge marketing push

The Samsung Soul’s record £5m marketing campaign appears to be paying off, as the handset became the most popular contract phone this week.

The device is the first Samsung handset to reach the number one spot in Mobile’s handset tracker this year, which is based on contract sales at Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse.

The manufacturer has given the Soul a huge promotional push, including extensive TV advertising.

The tracker chart has been dominated by Nokia handsets so far this year, with the Apple iPhone also spending lengthy spells at the top.

However, the Soul could be set to face stiff competition from another unlikely source. The LG Secret is in stores and is also being backed by a £5.5m marketing campaign.

Samsung last hit the top tracker spot with the G600 in November 2007.
