James King quits to look after sick father

Samsung has had to part company with its newly-installed marketing director, James King, after just one month in the role.

King decided to leave the Korean manufacturer after news about his father’s health.

King had been working on the launch of the new U800 and the Omnia following his move from Motorola last month.

He heralded as a major asset at Samsung along with new general manager, Derek Williamson, who joined around the same time. Samsung has also seen Matthew Brum join from Sony Ericsson two weeks ago following his appointment as Samsung’s new head of product management.

Samsung UK boss Mark Mitchinson said that the company was sorry to see King leave, but will now start the recruitment process afresh.

Mitchinson said: ‘James’ personal circumstances were very unfortunate and have made it quite difficult. I got on very well with him personally and professionally and wish him all the best for the future.’

King couldn’t be reached as Mobile went to press.
