The phone is the first step in the manufacturer's come-back strategy to become the entertainment brand

 Sony Ericsson has launched the W995 with a built-in BBC iPlayer and links to PlayNow services.

Users of the phone will be able to access entertainment content such as music and video from Sony sister services via an on-board widget.

The phone comes with 60 film downloads as part of the price, which are available over a one year period.

The phone includes an eight-megapixel camera with face detection, 8GB internal memory and YouTube / Facebook access.

The W995 Walkman phone will be sold with an MS410 Snap-on Speaker Stand, providing listeners with a clear audio experience.

The manufacturer celebrated the launch of the new handset this week with an event with comedians such Ed Byrne, Tim Minchin (pictured), Alice Russell and Salah

Sony Ericsson’s managing director, Nathan Vautier, said: ‘The W995 really is the complete entertainment package and, via our extensive range of services, represents our on-going commitment to providing consumers with the best audiovisual experience, anytime and anywhere.’
