Nine broadcasters have been disiplined by Ofcom this year after
competition scandals in radio and television and have paid a total of
£7.7 million in fines to the regualtor. The biggest fine was incured
by ITV, which handed over £5.67 million in offences.

Thousands of people working for the networks are expected to lose
thier jobs in the coming months as the operators look to cut costs in
restructures. Several operators have employed management consultants
to advise where cost savings can be made and Vodafone has already
announced it would reduce costs by £1 billion. The five UK operators
employ almost 45,000 people.

The legal challenge of a German
broadband operator, AirData has highlighted a pan European problem,
which leaves between 50 and 100 million Europeans in remote areas
without broadband coverage. AirData was forced to close its opeations
because the German operator deemed its services in appropariate and
decided to reward the frequencey to mobile phone operators.
