SAMSUNG SPECIAL EDITION ‘S6 to re-ignite the mobile market’ Samsung mobile’s UK VP Conor Pierce explains to Mobile what makes its two latest fl agship devices so special THE head of Samsung’s mobile division in the UK, Conor Pierce, has told Mobile that he believes the brand’s new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge deliver ‘signifi cant innovation to re-ignite the UK smartphone market’. Speaking at the launch of the new devices in Barcelona, Pierce told Mobile that partners had responded positively to the new products: ‘What I’m hearing from our partners is they are looking forward to signifi cant innovation in the market, and the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge delivers just that.’ Pierce believes that it has broken the mould with some genuinely unique features such as the screen on the Galaxy S6 edge: ‘The Galaxy S6 edge is a really good example of Samsung’s relentless innovation in technology and design’ said Pierce. ‘The design brief for both devices was to make aspirational devices. I have to hand it to the design team – they have done a superb job, there is nothing like it in the market – it’s stunning!’ The Samsung Galaxy S6 devices have what is considered to be the best screen in the industry. The brand has packed an impressive 577ppi into a 5.1-inch display, which compares favourably with the iPhone 6 (326ppi) and HTC One M9 (441ppi). ‘It’s simply the best smartphone screen with the highest resolution, which leans on Samsung technology and leadership in display. We are lucky that we can team up with other parts of the business to create an amazing product,’ said Pierce. Both devices sport incredibly fastwired charging – 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5. Another unique feature is the Galaxy S6’s wireless charging, which supports two standards – WPC and PMA certifi ed wireless charging technology. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will work with any wireless pad available in the market that supports WPC and PMA standards. It’s a feature that Pierce is particularly enamoured with: ‘Wireless charging is the latest consumer behaviour. I’ve been enjoying using wireless charging; soon plugging in your phone will become redundant.’ The brand is looking to use its dominant market position to really develop the wireless charging arena. ‘We are going to drive this eco system and it will become the norm,’ said Pierce.
