International MVNO Lebara has partnered with MasterCard to launch a new money sharing service under the sub-brand Lebara Money.

The Lebara prepaid MasterCard offers customers a two-card facility for sending and withdrawing money internationally. Money can be loaded onto the UK-based card and then moved to the beneficiary’s prepaid debit card abroad, allowing instant access.

The joint venture aims to provide customers from growing migrant communities with a range of financial services and products designed specifically to support their needs.

Lebara CEO Ratheesan Yoganathan said: ‘Lebara made making calls home easy, efficient and affordable. We want to offer customers the same high level of service and peace of mind when they send their hard earned money home.

‘Working with NBS and MasterCard will ensure that this is exactly what they get at all times.’

The prepaid MasterCard is aimed at ethnic communities with families in countries including Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines, China and Eastern Europe.

The service is free with customers paying £14.90 to buy the two linked cards. Direct payment and cash loading is also available at over 30,000 Paypoints and Post Office branches across the country.
