Google is lining up the man who oversaw its acquisition of the Motorola Mobility merger to take control of the manufacturer, according to reports in the US.

Dennis Woodside, who formerly was in charge of the digital company's ad sales in the Americas before taking charge of the transition, will take over from current Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha once the takeover is complete. The US Justice Department and the European Union Competition Commission are the latest bodies to have approved the $12.5bn acquisition. Google still needs a green light from China before the deal can go ahead.

According to a report in Bloomberg, other shortlisted candidates included Christy Wyatt, Motorola Mobility senior VP, and the manufacturer's chief strategy officer John Bucher. Woodside also was formerly in charge of the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg businesses at Google.

Both companies declined to comment on the report.
