Phones 4u has signed a deal with Tech Data Mobile for it to run its supply chain operations for the retailer across the UK and Ireland.

The deal is one of the most sought after in the mobile industry and Tech Data Mobile has beaten competition from incumbent 20:20 Mobile to clinch the contract. It will mean the distributor will handle all warehousing activities for its 800 plus branches, as well as fulfillment for its web and telesales businesses. The deal will start in May 2013.

Scott Hooton, chief commercial officer at Phones 4u, said: 'It’s clear that Tech Data Mobile has the infrastructure, resources and expertise to provide a highly efficient and effective supply chain solution for Phones 4u. They also share our passion and dedication to customer service and we are confident that this agreement will deliver even higher levels of flexibility and service to Phones 4u and all our customers.'

Richard Baxendale, vice-president of services for Tech Data Mobile, said: 'This is another great win for Tech Data Mobile’s services business in Europe, adding to a number of important contracts that we have secured over the past 12 months and underlining the strength of our performance in the services sector.  It’s a massive vote of confidence in Tech Data Mobile and our ability to meet the demanding supply chain requirements of a major nationwide retailer and the high standards that Phones 4u customers expect.'
