Roger Fogg, CEO of Tesco Telecom and Tesco Mobile, has left the company. Fogg has been replaced by Anthony Vollmer, who was previously Tesco’s head of broadband.
Vollmer will take charge of Tesco’s Telecom division as well as oversee the supermarket’s 200-plus Phone Shops and its MVNO operation Tesco Mobile.
Vollmer has a track record in the telecoms industry, having been CEO of Plusnet before joining Tesco in July 2011. Vollmer also spent three years at BT as head of broadband and fixed voice before joining Plusnet in 2008.
Fogg held the role of CEO of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms CEO from December 2011, after Graham Harris left for personal reasons. Harris had taken over from mobile industry veteran Lance Batchelor six months before.
Fogg’s brief at the time was to realign Tesco Telecom and Tesco Mobile more closely with its electronics division.
Fogg was seen as a Tesco ‘lifer’, having been with the company for over 18 years. Industry sources welcomed Vollmer’s arrival. ‘Vollmer is not a Tesco man, born and bred, and hopefully will bring an industry perspective to the job which has been missing since Lance Batchelor left,’ said one.
A Tesco spokeswoman confirmed Vollmer has replaced Fogg but declined to say why Fogg has left Tesco.
