Fonehouse looks to Vodafone for b2b launch

Independent retailer Fonehouse is gearing up for an assault on the b2b market with Vodafone from the start of October.

The retailer, which has 55 franchises, is looking to strengthen its brand by giving franchisees the ability to connect Vodafone initially. Partners met with Vodafone at the Fonehouse fourth partner conference yesterday (23 September).

The move into b2b connections will see Fonehouse retailers selling Vodafone business tariffs targeting companies in their local area.

Fonehouse MD Clive Bayley said: ‘We will be putting a proper programme together over the next three months and those partners that really want to go ahead can start selling with Vodafone on 1 October.’

Fonehouse has also secured a b2b deal with 3 for business sales.

3 head of business sales Paul Foley said: 'The Fonehouse ambition has a clear strategic fit with 3's pursuit of the small business space. We feel the entrepreneurial flair of their franchisees will enable a clear appreciation of the mobile needs for the local business community and we look forward to building a strong alliance on that capability.'

Partners attending the conference were presented to by Chris Lee from Vodafone Partner Service (formerly Yes Telecom). Lee explained the structure of the Vodafone’s main business tariff, Business Choice.

Some Fonehouse partners were optimistic about the option of selling business connections. Fonehouse franchisee Shakira Abubaker said: ‘It will be an extra thing to offer to our customers and we will be able to create an ideal package. We already have quite a large base of business b2b customers.’

However, other franchisees were more sceptical about selling business connections due to Fonehouse’s consumer heritage.
