Data Select has made it three years in a row for distributor award, after winning the best hardware distributor award in this year's Mobile Industry Awards.
Data Select is the only company to have pulled off a hat-trick of awards.
Its handset distribution grew by 30%, which, according to GfK, represents 9% of the UK market – more than some manufacturers. Secure Select, its online portal, provides customers with 24/7 year round orders, real-time stock levels and order tracking.
The company boasts more direct manufacturer and network relationships than any other UK distributor. It kept all its manufacturer relationships, adding a further eight during the year, and increased its network partners by one to reach a total of nine.
Data Select’s Platinum Club partner programme, now in its fourth year, has 50 contracted customers delivering in excess of 20,000 monthly handsets. The Club has grown to include retailers such as Comet, Brighthouse, Costco, Asda, WHSmith, Toys R' Us and more.
One of the company’s biggest coups last year was a contract to supply Vodafone’s entire indirect channel with handsets.
Data Select also expanded its product portfolio, especially Acer, BlackBerry and Motorola. By doing so it was able to increase its market share to offset the lack of growth in the overall market.
The judges concluded: ‘Data Select showed a very impressive development of business in 2010, with a particularly great execution of the iPhone launch for Vodafone. It adapted well through 2009/10, continuing to grow both top line and bottom line in a challenging market. It instigated continuous innovation and showed a real passion for understanding and meeting its customers’ needs.’
