Growth in mobile accessories and services linked to the handset helped to boost attendance at the latest Tech Data Mobile Aspire partners’ event.
From just over 128 people from manufacturers, etailers and retailers, the numbers leapt to 148 attendees. Tech Data Mobile’s head of mobile, Jim Michel, said: ‘This was certainly the biggest event by far and the growth in the accessory market was reflected in the number of accessory partners attending.
‘There were 11 accessory vendors, which is by far the largest [number] and we had an accessory hub. I think the service we offer to support our partners is also proving to be an attraction. Our service levels have certainly been embraced.’
As well as Dixons, Argos, Amazon and QVC, other new partners attending the event for the first time included giffgaff, Colt, Santok, Asda, ULM and TKMaxx. Sony was headline sponsor with presentations from Tech Data Mobile, Microsoft and CCS Insight. Also, HTC, Samsung and Motorola showcased their latest products at the event held at the Mayfair Hotel, in London at the end of November.
Michel added: ‘There were also one-to-one meetings with key vendors where opportunites for them were outlined. ‘We had a fantastic presentation by CCS Insight’s Shaun Collins, who spoke about Apple’s dominance and compared it with Nokia’s performance. The insight he gave us was fascinating. Also the growth in tablets was another important trend.
‘The quality of people we had this year was great. A1 Comms MD Paul Sisson, was also in attendance – the way he has increased the number of connections for his business has been phenomenal.’
