Computer 2000 is running free workshops to help IT, mobile and fixed line resellers win public sector deals following a Government pledge to put at least a quarter of its procurement through small and medium sized businesses (SMBs)
The company is kicking of its public sector tendering workshop programme this week at the Marriott Hotel in Northampton with a second workshop on 24th January 2013 and further workshops planned at different locations around the country through the year.
Around 16 resellers are expected to attend the first session. The half-day briefing aims to give resellers a good understanding of how to address opportunities in local government, health and education and the wider public sector.
Cathi Low, public sector director at Computer 2000, said: ‘With the government committed to putting a minimum of 25% of all procurement through SMBs, and the peak buying period ahead of the public sector year-end on 6th April fast approaching, this is the ideal time for resellers to start looking for opportunities. Attending one of our renowned workshops will give them a good grounding in public sector buying processes and how they set about winning business and creating incremental revenue streams.'
Resellers who attend the workshops and engage in Computer 2000’s public sector initiative are also given access to specialist support to help them get started. The programme is delivering good results, said Low. ‘Over the past year we have worked with many resellers who are new to the public sector, and helped them to win business.
‘Our dedicated team can provide guidance on how to sell solutions, special pricing and bid support and much more. The public sector is different and needs real focus – that’s exactly why we set up the public sector team and why we are getting some really great results.’
Low said Computer 2000, which is the UK and Ireland arm of Tech Data Europe, has engaged with more than 400 resellers on public sector business over the past year. ‘Over the coming year, this effort and investment will continue and be particularly evident over the next few weeks as we approach the peak buying months of the year.
‘Our public sector business is developing at a rapid pace and we are working extremely hard to make all the special deals and pricing available visible and accessible to resellers. It’s important to have accurate information and to understand and follow the processes involved in applying for supply contracts with government, healthcare and education. We are here to help resellers do all that and be successful in winning new business.’
Topics covered by the workshops include how public sector procurement works, understanding ‘purpose of contract’, finding and identifying public sector bid opportunities, finding new public sector opportunities, creating successful tenders and presenting effectively to public sector customers.
