Olive MD Martin Flick has further strengthened the company’s management team, headhunting yet another Azzurri Communications executive and taking on a new group financial director.
Flick has hired former Azzurri business development director Grainne Gormley as Olive’s head of corporate sales. The company has also taken on group financial director Michael Rutherford, who joins Olive from Swan Housing, where he was financial director.
These two latest appointments follow that of Sean Sadler, former Azzurri IT head, who joined Olive in March as IT director. It also appointed Paul Butler, former business partner of Flick, as commercial director in January, the same month as Flick took on the role of managing director after leaving Azzurri.
Flick founded b2b dealer Axxent Voice and Data with Butler in December 1997 before selling it to Azzurri in August 2004.
Speaking to Mobile, Flick said this week these latest appointments to the management team clear the way to focus on growing and integrating the company, following a period of acquisition which has seen Olive buy six businesses over the past two years.
Flick said: ‘This demonstrates we are investing in the business and bringing experience and pedigree into our organization to give us a robust management platform to develop and grow the business across organic sales with our strategic partners, such as Vodafone, as well as developing cross selling and unified comms opportunities with our customers.’
Olive is also close to announcing its seventh acquisition. However, Flick said the company had taken its foot of the acquisition pedal for now. He said: ‘After this latest acquisition, which will be completed in a few weeks, we want to focus on integrating our acquisitions and creating organic growth. Our focus will be on our customers, on customer service and on how we develop our client relationships.’
Olive has also overhauled its sales team, creating two separate teams, one focused on customers taking less than 20 devices with the other working with those customers with more than 20 devices. The company is also focusing on growing its base of larger customers.
Commercial director Paul Butler said: ‘We have 75,000 customers and our target customers take between 100 and 2000 devices. We also intend to cross sell other products into that base. On average our customers take 1.5 products. Our aim is for them to take an average of 3.5 products.’
The company is both a Vodafone Platinum Partner and an O2 Centre of Excellence partner. It has around 70,000 connections of which around two thirds are with Vodafone.
Butler said Olive aims to continue to evolve beyond mobile. He said: ‘We have grown from a mobile phone company to a communications integrator, evolving a set of products and services across IT. Services include mobile, IP telephony, WAN, LAN, management billing, fixed calls and lines – we want to sell everything that is connectivity.’
The company is continuing its recruitment drive. It currently has 78 employees across its two offices in High Wycombe and Leeds.
