Tech Data Mobile: ‘It’s business as usual’

Tech Data Mobile VP Stephen Nolan insisted this week that it is ‘business as usual’ at the distributor despite a number of high profile management departures over the past six months, including president Rod Millar’s move to the US, which Mobile revealed last issue.

Nolan, former Tech Data European VP, joined Tech Data Mobile in May this year after UK and Ireland VP Jim Michel left for personal reasons.

 Speaking to Mobile, following news of Millar’s move to Tech Data Corp’s US headquarters, Nolan dismissed sources’ claims that customer confidence and company morale had been hit by a spate of management changes and the ongoing investigation by US parent group Tech Data Corp into its UK businesses, following the discovery of a £21m accounting discrepancy.

Since February this year, Tech Data Mobile has seen the departure of sales director Steve Fraser, marketing manager Graham Allerton, VP Jim Michel, and accessories director Martijn Van Den Hout, and Millar’s US relocation.

Dismissing the claims as ‘nonsense rumour-mongering’, Nolan said: ‘The topline value of our business couldn’t be better. It is significant, as is the momentum of the business.’

He added: ‘Like every business we will refresh our organisation from time to time – but it is very much business as usual.’

Nolan insisted Millar is still at the helm of Tech Data Mobile despite his move to the US, which was made for family reasons.

Pointing to the recent promotion of Tech Data BDM Dylan Price to sales director, which replaced Fraser, and the appointment of industry veteran  Michelle Henchoz as marketing chief, Nolan said: ‘We have a fresh and revitalised team. I am very excited by the appointment of Michelle and very proud of the early wins that Dylan Price has already made in his new role. ’

He added: ‘I wanted a sales leader in a changing organisation and Dylan has great customer relations, great energy levels, he is engaging and his knowledge of the industry is exceptionally strong.

‘A team is only as good as its talent so there are no holy cows here and we will continue to look for the best talent so that we remain competitive for our vendors and our customers.’

Looking to the future, Nolan said Tech Data Mobile is focusing on ‘growth and innovation’, leveraging its position as a division of Tech Data Corp’s subsidiary Computer 2000 to cross sell into markets including BYOD, unbundled deals, education and the converged market, as well as increasing its value added services for partners.
