Brightstar 20:20 has inked a handset and accessories distribution deal with HTC in the UK.
The deal, exclusively revealed by Mobile this morning, is one of the first major deals Brightstar 20:20 has clinched since the US parent group Brightstar bought 20:20 Mobile late last year, and will be seen as a major coup by its rivals.
HTC said the partnership will help grow HTC's B2B and B2C customer reach in the UK and 'establish Brightstar 20:20 as an important distribution partner of HTC products in the UK' for HTC's flagship handsets including the HTC One and HTC Desire series, as well as HTC's complete range of HTC accessories.
HTC has been seeking a new distribution partner for some time. Sources say the manufacturer is looking for a distributor that can aggressively promote its devices after suffering disappointing sales of its highly rated flagship phone the HTC One last year.
Brightstar 20:20 is seen by HTC as a key player that can leverage its expertise and 30,000 resellers, e-commerce operators and retail partners to raise the profile of HTC products.
The deal follows news last month that HTC’s plans to ink a direct distribution deal with Exertis Micro-P had fallen at the eleventh hour. The deal was said to have failed after Exertis Micro-P’s partners raised concerns of its impact on their existing relationship with the distributor.
Brightstar 20:20 will work with HTC along with its current distributors Tech Data Mobile and Ingram Micro Mobility.
Peter Frølund, UK General Manager, HTC said: '2014 is a key year for HTC and after discussions with key re-sellers, Brightstar 20:20 was the standout candidate to be our new distribution partner in the UK. We’ve been impressed with their professional and pro-active approach and we look forward to working closely with them as part of our growth strategy for 2014.'
Jim Michel, Managing Director, Brightstar 20:20 UK said: 'We are delighted to announce our long term partnership with HTC. Driving innovation forward in the mobile industry is a vision we and HTC share – recognising the unique services that we can offer to support their propositions.'
