Mobile Fun has targeted £1 million in revenue for its new distribution business, Accessory Lab, after significant investment in recruitment and the acquisition of Playfect.
The Birmingham-based mobile accessories firm has launched its new arm for retailers and dealers to purchased customised and exclusive products, with its recent takeover of Playfect already kickstarting worldwide sales. Managing director Mo Hussain told Mobile Accessory Lab was shaping up to be a key part of Mobile Fun’s overall operations.
He said: ‘From the offset we have been billing Accessory Lab as a key part of the business. It’s probably our most serious initiative and we’ve built a team of people dedicated to this. We expect it to develop well and we have targeted £1 million in revenue from this arm for the coming year.
'We’re looking at the next stage of growth for retailers and dealers. We had a six month review of the distribution strategy and now the brand is ready to go. Jason joined 3-4 weeks ago and he has a wealth of industry expertise.'
As part of the move Mobile Fun has recruited significantly. Sixteen team members have been added to the new distribution business which will be headed up by industry veteran Jason Fernyhough. Fernyhough will be aided by new product marketing manager Kimberly Morrell and sales manager Martin McNulty.
Fernyhough said: ‘We want to get more UK customers and we want more household names to be associated with our brand. We’re bringing products to market at the right price points, so I think it’s (£1 million revenue) achievable. We are in the process of talking to retailers.
'This is an exciting time for my team. We believe that we'll be bringing a fresh alternative to retailers and dealers that want range, speed of product availability and a team they can trust.'
Hussain added that Mobile Fun didn’t have any further plans to recruit for the time being, but there was ‘a budget there to enlarge the team’ as customer numbers grow.
He said: ‘This part of our business is going to be huge. Accessories are a big growth area in the business. Only a handful of distributors are doing accessories well, and very few companies are doing both handsets and accessories well. It’s a huge opportunity for us.’
