Vodafone confirms Brightstar 20:20 as sole accessories partner

Vodafone has confirmed Brightstar 20:20 as its sole UK accessories partner as it steams ahead with overhauling its retail strategy.

Mobile understands that the deal was officially signed earlier this week between the operator and Brightstar 20:20. The contract will see the company source, supply and market all Vodafone accessories in the UK, and was put together by sales director Steve Sanghera and his team.

A Vodafone spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that we have appointed Brightstar 20:20 UK to manage our entire accessories business in the UK. We believe Brightstar 20:20’s service will give our customers an even greater choice, with a wider range of accessories to choose from including wearable categories. Our sales advisers will continue to offer the best possible advice and guidance to customers on how to use their chosen accessory. We will start to rollout the new range of accessories in selected UK stores initially to allow us to fine tune our accessory range before accelerating the rollout into the rest of our estate later this year.’

Brightstar 20:20 managing director Jim Michel added: ‘I am incredibly proud of the Brightstar 20:20 team. This accessory partnership with Vodafone is the first of its kind and sets the precedent of things to come. The contract comes after months of hard work, enabling us to offer up a best in class solution.’

The deal follows the official launch of the Crewe-based firm earlier this month following Birghtstar Corp’s acquisition of 20:20 Mobile in February. Michel said at the time of launch that Brightstar 20:20 was attracting significant market interest as it made the transition from a traditional mobile distributor to mobile service and solution provider.

The Vodafone contract, which Mobile understands to be 30 months long, represents a significant coup for Brightstar 20:20 as it continues to grow its UK brand.

The exclusive deal also comes after Vodafone’s announcement regarding its retail estate overhaul. The operator recently announced that it will spend £100m on the rolling out of 150 new stores, as well as the regeneration of several existing stores.
