Exertis Micro-is celebrating a double victory this week after storming the 2014 Mobile Industry Awards 2014 to win the twin accolades of Best Distributor of the Year and Best Accessories Distributor of the Year.
Simon Woodman,Exertis Micro-P mobile sales director, attributes the company’s success to outstanding performances from both its mobile and accessories division over the past year and the company’s innovative approach to the way it does business with its vendors, customers and partners.
Exertis Micro-P’s Conect airtime partner programme played a key role in winning the award, impressing judges with its rapid growth and expansion of services since its launch last year.
In 12 months the programme has taken on over 78 partners, built a base which is adding over 2,000 connections per month and brought on board a host of key partners including all four networks, leading manufacturers Nokia and Samsung as well as Polycom and Yealink. It has also overseen the roll out of affiliate services LeadsGenie, Compare Business Phones and The Layer for its Conect partners.
Another key factor which put Exertis Micro-P ahead of competitors for the Distributor of the Year award is its rapid growth which has seen its mobile hardware business double in size year on year over the past three years. Over the last year Exertis Micro-P has shipped an average of 60,000 units a day. This growth has been helped by a major recruitment drive which saw the mobile sales team grow by 50% and its warehousing capacity boosted to 710,000 sq ft, and the opening of a new build £1.5m office in Stoke.
The company has also cemented its standing with key vendors, shipping over 1.5 million Samsung units in 2013 and maintaining its position as Nokia’s top distributor, holding 95% of marketshare in the UK. The distributor also capitalised on its distribution partnership with Sony, inked last year, becoming the manufacturer’s second largest distributor within six months of coming on board.
Exertis Micro-P has also delivered an outstanding performance over the year in tablet sales which grew by 300% in the period, making it the preferred supplier to the retail channel and Microsoft’s go-to-market partner for tablets in the telco channel.
Attach, the distributor’s accessories division, also caught judges’ attention for its rapid growth, since its launch in early 3013, which has seen turnover increase by 150% over the past year, with over 2.8 million accessories distributed in the period. Exertis Micro-P's general manager of accessories, Stuart Bruce, who heads up the division said Attach is set to grow revenues 100% from £32 million to over £60m, in the 2014 financial year.
Judges were also impressed by the division’s value added services such as its Market Research and Insight service to customers, its white label accessories website proposition and its prompt response in helping vendors grow sales in the nascent wearable technology market.
Attach holds a number of key distribution contracts. It is the largest UK distributor in the UK for Samsung, Nokia, Tech 21, Plantronics and Jabra. It has also clinched exclusive deals with Jawbone and Bullguard, growing Jawbone’s business tenfold in the period.
The accessories division also stood out for its track records in driving sales of accessories for its customers and its prompt response in helping vendors grow sales in the nascent wearable technology market.
Over the year it has won contracts to supply accessories to a number of major retailers including Amazon, Apple, Dixons, and Argos, increasing business with each retailer by 350%, 400%, 480%, and 200% respectively.
