Sprint appoint Brightstar Marcelo Claure as President and CEO

Softbank-owned Sprint has replaced chief executive Dan Hesse with Marcelo Claure, the former head of mobile phone distributor Brightstar.

The founder of Brightstar will take over as CEO of the third-largest US wireless carrier. Claure will begin his new role on the 11th of August.

The US corporation SoftBank acquired Brightstar in January of this year.

Claure, a board member of Sprint, will replace Hesse (60), who has held the role of chief executive since 2007.

Sprint lost 245,000 monthly subscribers in its June quarter while its three rivals all added new users.

In other reports, Sprint and its parent company SoftBank have abandoned plans to acquire T-Mobile US.
