Tech Data Mobile senior vice president Rod Millar has left the business with Stephen Nolan promoted to the role of senior VP of Europe.
Tech Data Corporation said it is not seeking a replacement for Millar’s global role, which will not be continued.
Millar’s resignation follows reports of spiralling morale at the company's European division. It closely follows the resignation of Huub Lamers, head of Tech Data Mobile’s Benelux, Spanish, french and Italian businesses - said to be one of the company’s most profitable divisions.
The company has already seen major management upheaval in the UK division with a number of senior directors departing over the past 18 months, including former Tech Data Mobile UK and Ireland head Jim Michel who quit the business, moving to head up rival Brightstar 20:20.
Tech Data Mobile UK was also hit by the loss of a number of contracts in the past two years, including significant deals with Google and Sony.
The UK business was also involved in a long running financial investigation into Tech Data’s businesses in the UK after accounting discrepancies were unearthed at the company.
However the appointment of Peter Hubbard to head up the mobile division in the UK and the recent landing of a major b2b distribution deal with Microsoft Mobile Devices had been seen as heralding more positive times for Tech Data Mobile in the UK.
Millar has a long career in mobile distribution, largely in the UK. He joined 20:20 Mobile in 1999, rising to logistics MD, leaving in 2006 to take up the role of president of Brightstar Europe, a joint venture between Tech Data Corp and Brightstar Corp.
Millar was appointed president of Tech Data Mobile after it was created from Tech Data Corp’s acquisition of Brightstar Corp’s 50% stake in Brightstar Europe in September 2012.
In June last year he was transferred to the US division where he became senior vice president of Tech Data Mobile Solutions with global responsibility for the corporation’s mobile services and solutions, including Tech Data Mobile in Europe.
Stephen Nolan, who will take on the role of senior VP of Tech Data Mobile Europe, was formerly VP of the division. Nolan also headed up Tech Data Mobile's UK and Irelan division, following Michel’s departure, quitting the post after Hubbard was brought on board early this year.
Rod Millar and Tech Data Mobile was unavailable for comment as Mobile went to press.
