Huawei has formed an alliance with Vodafone to focus on the European enterprise ICT
The two companies have agreed to work together to develop a number of services for their global enterprise customers, with focus to be placed on Huawei’s mobile technology. The collaboration will see the Huawei and Vodafone Global Enterprise work together to explore the opportunities for coverage solutions, developing M2M module designs and investigating solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). Huawei has also announced that its mobile connectivity bonded technology will be used for new products.
Speaking at its annual Innovation Day, Huawei explained that it is keen to work alongside telecoms companies in Europe to create an ecosystem to ‘accelerate the pace of digitisation’.
The agreement will see both Vodafone and Huawei build on their existing partnership, which involves researching future networks and new services. This new alliance will see both companies develop solutions in indoor network coverage, safe cities and cloud data centres. Chief executive of Vodafone Group Enterprise, Nick Jeffery, described the alliance as ‘an important evolution’.
He said: ‘We have worked with Huawei across various parts of our business and this agreement to focus on the enterprise market is an important evolution. There is an opportunity for us both to bring our expertise to bear on some of the key challenges in the enterprise market.’
Yan Lida, president of Huawei’s Enterprise Business Group, explained that the partnership will look to further build joint enterprise innovations between Vodafone and Huawei. The collaboration will also integrate both firms’ ICT expertise to ‘transform the industry’.
He said: ‘Now, many enterprises realise that technology-led transformation is necessary for companies to stay competitive and improve operational efficiency and performance. Huawei is pleased to extend our long-standing relationship with Vodafone to establish a new agreement.
'We aim to carry out joint innovations, integrate our ICT expertise and global resources, help customers cope with challenges and opportunities brought by the new industrial revolution, and push ICT transformation in the industry.’ Huawei and Vodafone have worked together previously to deliver an innovative branch-enablement project in Asia, along with hosting and cloud solutions in South Africa.
