Exclusive: Samsung ends Ingram Micro deal

Ingram Micro’s contract with Samsung has been cancelled, Mobile can exclusively reveal.

The distributor was one of the four partners chosen by Samsung back in June to distribute its mobile products in the UK. However, it appears that after six months the manufacturer has decided to reduce the number of partners once again.

UK distribution strategy

Ever since Conor Pierce took charge at the manufacturer there has been an emphasis on distribution strategy that valued fewer deeper relationships with partners.

Pierce told Mobile at Mobile World Congress shortly after taking the role that an assessment of the distribution partners would be a priority, he said: ‘I think we need to constantly assess how we engage with the market, especially now as we are really looking at a way to sell out rather than just volume selling and that will put a lot of dependencies on our distribution partners because they also need to change their way. It’s an important part of my market assessment and my Samsung assessment.’

Mobile has contacted Ingram Micro and Samsung who both declined to comment

Changes at the top

Samsung announced this morning that the global head of its mobile division JK Shin would be stepping back from the day-to-day running of the manufacturer.
