Westcoast has acquired specialist distributor ArtSystems.
Purchasing the business for an undisclosed sum, Westcoast MD Duncan Forsyth explained that the takeover would allow the IT distributor to ramp up its value added services. Artsystems focuses primarily on the 3D market, recently making significant strides into 3D printing solutions.
This is something that Forsyth said Westcoast will look to take advantage of. ‘This acquisition represents a game-changing opportunity for Westcoast’, he said.
‘ArtSystems has been a driving force in the development of the wide format sector and is a leader in next generation 3D printing. Both industries are growing hard and fast. Access to ArtSystems’ peerless technical expertise and range of distribution agreements with leading vendors like HP and Stratasys will give us a considerable competitive edge.’
Out of the comfort zone
The 3D printing market has been gaining traction, with manufacturer BQ placing a strong emphasis on it. The Spanish business recently entered into the UK, partnering with Tech Data Mobile to drive into mobile.
Westcoast has previously revealed to Mobile that it was keen to move into new markets to support resellers that were being ‘forced out of their comfort zones.’
Speaking at the time, head of mobile, Darren Seward said: ‘It’s about teaching customers about new and unfamiliar markets, bringing them on the journey, doing training and doing a variety of services. For a customer to have the facilities to do that would cost them a lot.’
