Tech Data Mobile bolsters Android drive with new BDM

Tech Data Mobile has furthered its Android investment with the appointment of a dedicated business development manager (BDM).

Tom Schubert will take on the role, having previously worked at both A1 Comms and Phones 4U. The distributor explained that Schubert will work with TDM’s Android vendor partners, such as Samsung and Motorola, while also supporting dealers and resellers.

The distributor has taken a number of steps over the last year to place a greater focus on the operating system (OS), boosting its vendor roster after b2b demand for Android devices led to a surge in sales. Samsung Galaxy Edge 6 and Edge+, as well as Motorola’s Moto G and X Play handsets were the most popular.

TDM revealed at the time that it would be changing its Android strategy to open up more areas of the market to its resellers, claiming there the OS held ‘more potential to exploit’. The new BDM marks the next stage of this plan.

Vendor director David Brassington said: ‘Android is the biggest and fastest-moving area of the mobile market right now and it’s important for us to have dedicated resource that partners can go to when they need access to our expertise and capability. Tom has a wealth of experience and expertise and he’ll play an invaluable role in helping us to support customers and partners to grow their Android sales, by ensuring Tech Data Mobile has the desired mix of Android licenses, products and propositions.’
