Purchasing manager leaves Brightstar

Brightstar’s purchasing manager, Gareth Goddard, quit the business this week.

Goddard was brought in from Carphone Warehouse in July last year to lead Brightstar’s purchasing team.

He spent eight years at Carphone and was regarded as a highly accomplished handset buyer.

Goddard’s replacement is Kevin Wragg from Computer2000. Brightstar and Computer2000’s parent company Tech Data entered a 50-50 joint venture on mobile distribution in Europe last year.

Brightstar is now switching its focus to senior personnel from Computer2000. It has already been using the services of Computer2000 sales director John Doughty.

Brightstar is keen to show its suppliers (manufacturers) that it is different to existing distributors by reaching IT dealers with smartphones and PDAs.

The idea is to make the most of Computer2000’s expertise with internet providers, technical IT software and office servers to integrate mobile products.
