Samsung takes fight to Dubai
Samsung is setting out a programme to cut the amount of grey market handsets – phones bought from unofficial channels overseas – as one of its major targets this year.
Part of the plan is believed to involve removing the warranty on phones bought outside the EU. And with Dubai believed to be the source of up to 50% of grey market products, Mitchinson believes it will go some way to addressing the problem.
Data Select and Brightstar have made commitments to buy official stock and are understood to have promised Samsung they will warn the manufacturer before they buy through grey channels at times when stock is unavailable through official routes, or when grey prices are much cheaper than official stock.
